Giga Pergola Systems

Giga Pergola Systems, GigaPer®, are modular pergola
constructions designed as a solution to urban overheating,
sealed surfaces, and the lack of quality public space.
The systems combine climate resilience, design, research,
and practical feasibility.

The system was developed by Impact Forest UG, www.Impact-Forest.de from Frankfurt.

GigaPer® is a modular greening and shading system
that makes sealed and overheated areas habitable again.

Its goal is to significantly reduce the effects of the urban heat island effect through large-scale,
plant-based shading while simultaneously improving quality of stay,
air quality, and the urban climate.

The system combines a variable load-bearing structure with a plant-guided,
circulating irrigation system based on a hydroponic-like principle.

Depending on the location, architecture, and climate region, the construction can be implemented in different materials,
such as wood, aluminium, or steel.

The planted elements can be flexibly adapted using regionally suitable
climbing plants such as wild vine, wisteria, clematis, etc..

Giga Pergola Systems provide extensive shade and significantly cool urban spaces within
just a few months of installation.

Giga Pergola is used in several formats:
• as a large-scale modular installation for commercial and public spaces
• as a compact solution for smaller areas in private settings
• as a research model for universities, schools, architects, etc.

Its possible applications range from sealed urban surfaces to B2B sectors such as company premises
and hospitality, all the way to B2C use in private gardens, rooftop terraces, or parking spaces.
The marketing is currently being developed internationally, initially with a focus on the DACH region,
together with partners from landscape architecture, urban planning, sustainability management, etc..
